Case Study
A Large Public Works Agency in a Major West Coast City
Challenge
A major municipal public works agency serving one of the largest cities on the U.S. West Coast faced growing challenges maintaining critical infrastructure using an aging, on-premises enterprise asset management (EAM) system. Over time, deep customization and expanding use across multiple operational units created performance bottlenecks, limited scalability, and increased support complexity.
The agency oversees a diverse asset portfolio including buildings, bridges, tunnels, streets, sewer systems, and urban forests. With increasing demands on its workforce and infrastructure, leadership sought a modern, cloud-based solution to improve efficiency, data visibility, and staff mobility.
Solution
The agency has partnered with 21Tech for over two decades, beginning with the original implementation of what is now HxGN EAM. 21Tech has continued to support the agency through system enhancements, integrations with other city entities, and strategic technology planning.
Most recently, 21Tech was selected to lead the agency’s transition from on-premises to cloud-hosted HxGN EAM. Key services include:
- Strategic advisory and technical execution of the EAM cloud migration
- Ongoing system support including configuration updates, performance optimization, and archiving
- Cross-departmental collaboration with related city agencies to ensure alignment and interoperability
Results
Centralized asset and work management across four core operational divisions, covering all city-maintained infrastructure
Broadened adoption of HxGN EAM across multiple departments, enabling citywide standardization
Empowered mobile field staff with improved access to real-time asset and maintenance data
Enhanced inventory and procurement workflows to streamline operations
Positioned the agency for long-term growth and reduced IT maintenance through cloud adoption
